"I began to view obstacles as opportunities, rather than inconveniences."

The Hil Behind the Hustle

Hilary is an ordinary girl working a 9-5 job in the city who comes home to walk her dog – JUST KIDDING. Sometimes I wish my life was that structured and simple. Short answer: I’m just a girl striving to be the best version of myself with lots of coffee along the way. Cheers!

I’ve been working since the day I turned 16 years old. At a young age I developed a constant desire to be productive, earn an income, push myself, and seek continuous motion. I began to view obstacles as opportunities, rather than inconveniences.

My 20’s consisted of 4:00am opening shifts at Starbucks to working at my father’s chiropractic office after class typing 15 page reports until midnight; to facing an unplanned pregnancy which resulted in taking a semester off, transferring universities, giving birth and placing my daughter into a loving open adoption then resuming my sophomore year days after the hospital – all while graduating on time; from becoming certified in yoga at 20 years old and waking up at 5:00am for years to hit the gym; to moving across the country (2x) by myself with a couple suitcases; from working two jobs during an internship and pre-requisite courses on top of applying and being denied by ten schools across the United States in pursuit of a highly competitive graduate program then waiting a year to reapply and finally receive an acceptance letter; to obtaining a personal training certification during full time graduate studies; from waitressing, folding laundry and nannying weekly to pay bills while in school; to driving for Lyft while studying for the national boards and teaching at a cycling studio; from obtaining three jobs as a certified and registered occupational therapist just days after my license became active; to being hospitalized after a bike accident and still going to work the next day – OKAY, you get the point!

"To Hustle is to set yourself apart from the rest and sometimes simply showing up."

My objective in sharing my Hustle is to 1) empower 2) inspire 3) encourage. You have a choice to perform your best, to put one foot in front of the other despite those voices in your head telling you otherwise; after all, you are the author to your own book. The Hustle doesn’t have to solely mean putting in crazy hours at the gym, or clocking in to your job every day, or even completing those deadlines for class. It means setting yourself apart from the rest and sometimes just simply showing up. The Hustle means exceeding your own expectations, unraveling your own capabilities and discovering what you are truly made of.

So, who is Hil nowadays? I continue to work very full time as a PRN occupational therapist in Chicago who loves self care, the gym, travel, and juicy cheeseburgers. What truly sets my heart on fire is encouraging others to PUSH themselves to the limits. I am a movement seeker who lusts adventure, exploration and novelty. I enjoy spontaneity, coffee shops, pursuing my faith and working incredibly hard. I am a firm believer of dreaming big, facing fears, and following your intuition. While my 20’s were full of crazy persistence and hard work, I have also experienced great opportunities, relationships, and have the best stories I wouldn’t trade for the world. In my website you will discover pieces of who I am and what I stand for. My hope is that you can relate to a part of my story and ultimately my mission – the Hustle.
